In Victoria, students normally start secondary school when they reach Year 7. Here at William Ruthven Secondary College, our transition leaders ensure the transition from primary school to secondary school is smooth and non-disruptive.
There are many steps to consider when choosing a secondary school, but there are plenty of resources available to help. The Victorian State Government website has information and about what to consider when moving from primary to secondary school, and how to make informed choices when selecting a suitable school.

Covid-19 Transition Update:
Due to remote and flexible learning arrangements currently in place, government primary schools may be unable to distribute the 2020 parent/carer pack to every year 6 family in hard copy from the start of Term 2 2020. Therefore, adjustments to the statewide year 6 to 7 timeline have been made. These changes give parents and carers an increased timeframe to return the application form.
Parents and carers of year 6 students can access the year 7 placement information pack and application form from this webpage. Your child’s government primary school will also make every effort to provide you a copy of the documents.
