“Wear It Purple wants young people everywhere to know that they have the right to be proud of who they are! Sex, sexuality or gender identity does not change this.” The Wear It Purple message is one the William Ruthven Secondary College community feel strongly about, and we had a great time showing our support. Our amazing Girls Group kicked off the day selling homemade baked goods at recess, raising $150 to sponsor a child in a developing country.

Lunch time hosted the main event – DJ B4ssl!ne performed an amazing set which had most of the school gathered on the basketball court admiring the dancing talents of Psydah and Long! While enjoying the entertainment, some students ate as many purple pancakes as they could manage while others did some crafty tie dye with amazing messages of pride including “proud of who I am” and “Proud of coming out and getting support from my family and friends”. I think we as a school can be very proud of our incredibly supportive and encouraging school community. We are especially proud of our SRC who were an amazing help on the day; cooking pancakes, supervising tie dye and generally keeping the peace!. Thanks to all students and staff (especially all those in purple) … can’t wait for the next one!
